Centre for Climate and Tech
The Great Lakes Centre for Climate and Tech is a registered non-governmental organization in Uganda focused on four key thematic areas: Climate, Science, Tech and Data
We provide training and develop educational materials in climate journalism, equipping journalists with the knowledge and skills to integrate climate issues into their reporting. We engage youth in climate science through social media channels and targeted discussions, ensuring that climate knowledge is accessible and relevant. Additionally, we communicate the technologies that are shaping climate science, contributing regional perspectives to their development.

Sharon Muzaki

Sharon Muzaki is a passionate environmental and science journalist who tells stories at the intersection of climate change, science, and environmental issues. She holds a degree in Journalism and Communication from Makerere University (2019), and has since honed her skills through training in areas like data journalism, agroecology, climate reporting, and multimedia storytelling.
Sharon is the inaugural fellow of the Advancing Science Journalism in Africa and the Middle East Fellowship, supported by Springer Nature and the prestigious Knight Science Journalism Program at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). This fellowship honours the legacy of Mohammed Yahia, and it’s given her a unique platform to further her work on science journalism in Africa and the Middle East.
In addition to her journalism work, Sharon is the co-founder of the Great Lakes Centre for Climate and Tech, a non-governmental organisation in Uganda. The Centre focuses on key areas like climate change, science, technology, and data, helping to drive innovation and sustainability in the region.
Through her reporting and initiatives, Sharon aims to inspire positive change, bringing critical environmental issues to the forefront while promoting solutions for a sustainable future.

Musinguzi Blanshe

Musinguzi is a journalist based in Kampala, Uganda. He was awarded Africa Investigative Journalist of the Year at the 2024 Africa Investigative Journalism Conference for a series of investigative articles on how Congo’s timber is illegally smuggled into East Africa.
He has been a correspondent for The Africa Report. His work has been published by The
The New York Times, Jeune Afrique, the Pulitzer Centre, Rest of World, Al Jazeera, Reuters, Mongabay, among other outlets.
